Card of the Week: The Fool
I have been toying around with the idea of pulling a card each week for YOU (you being anyone who is reading this Substack at this very moment) for a few weeks now. All of the usual doubts and imposter syndrome have been going strong: You don’t know what you’re talking about; Nobody cares; etc. etc. etc. Then, this morning, on my very first try, the Fool, card 0, literally flew out of the deck before I could even ask a question.
The fool card is the very first in the Major Arcana, number zero. It sits outside the rest of the deck, on its own trip. Zero is a weird number, right? Full of potential. Nothing and everything at the same time. Yesterday in the car, Angelo asked me: If you were a number, would you rather be zero or infinity? I chose zero because it kind of feels like all of infinity is already contained inside of it.
It’s the exact same way with the fool: a young person in an amazing outfit with all of their worldly possessions in a small bindle, about to leap off a cliff into the abyss of the unknown. The journey is just beginning. Anything can happen. Everything can happen.
The fool is a fresh start, an adventure, freedom, spontaneity. A reminder that life is not in our control, in a fun way. The fool encourages us to say yes to what life throws in front of us, because the feeling of control that saying no creates is only an illusion. The fool says that you should go for whatever silly idea you have. Who cares if you look weird. Fuck that inner critic. Jump off the cliff!
I am sending you, YOU, love and magic (and a pinch of foolishness) for the week ahead.
XO
