This morning, the moon was full in Capricorn. Did you feel it?
Because of this, I’m doing a three card spread for you. For us.
Or, I’m doing it because it’s a full moon and also because it’s easier to read cards when you pull more than one. When you work with Tarot, you’re telling a story, which will make more sense if you pull about three.
I’ve adapted this reading from a full moon spread I learned from Lindsay Mack of Tarot for the Wild Soul. I’ve edited her spread to three cards instead of four so I don’t get overwhelmed. Here we go.
The first card here is an anchor for the deep work of letting go that the full moon requires us. The second represents what we’ve learned in this cycle, what we want to keep. The last card asks how we can tend to ourselves during this time.
Today our Anchor Card is the Ten of Swords. Very on the nose for a full moon, as tens are the full moon cards of their suits. Ten represents the completion of the cycle, a moment of reflection. How did it go? What wisdom can be gained from what I’ve gone through, and what am I ready to let go of?
The swords represent the element of the air and the inner workings of the mind. They tend to be very dramatic in their predictions, but don’t let the sometimes violent images of this suit fool you: the calamity is internal.
Here is the Ten of Swords from the Wild Unknown Deck. Very, very dramatic. I don’t know about you but (and I’ve been saying this a lot) this past cycle has felt dramatic. I can really see myself in this bull, stabbed, bleeding, wandering, exhausted, through the darkest dramas of my own mind.
The bull is the symbol for Taurus, an earth sign that connects to the physical body. So in a way, this card is about the body struggling from wounds which are caused by the mind. Yep.
The good news is that this cycle is ending. We are on the verge of something new, and now all we have to do is figure out what to take with use and what to leave behind.
The next card in the spread is about what we’ve learned in this cycle, what we want to take with us into the next. This card is the two of cups. The cups are water, emotion, self love. Twos are unity, integration, harmony. To me, this card suggests that in this hard time we have learned deeper self love and a way to integrate parts of ourselves that we’ve been struggling with. For example, I’m learning to love my body (very, very slowly), and also to love the part of myself that fears my body and wants to control it. Two of cups is both, all, everyone. There is room at the table for every part of ourselves.
The last card of this spread asks how we can tend to ourselves during this moment. We’ve drawn the Mother of Pentacles, which, in a way, builds on the two of cups in the previous position. Mother of Pentacles nurturing and deeply grounded, in both her body and the natural world. She loves what is.
We can support ourselves in this moment by mothering ourselves in this way. We allow ourselves to be however we need to be. We love and forgive ourselves, no matter what.
Here are some other things that the Mother of Pentacles suggests:
Go outside
Lie on the ground
Clean your house
Buy some flowers and put them on the table
Feed yourself
Listen to your body
Stretch
Roll around on the floor
Hug yourself
Take a nap
Get a bunch of stone fruit and put it in a beautiful bowl or arrange it on your kitchen table
Make a pie and eat it for breakfast
Happy full moon, you. I hope that your sky is beginning to clear and that you can give yourself many small earthly gifts in the days ahead.
